SLOVENIA, Lake Bled in north-western Slovenia is at the base of the craggy Julian Alps with a tiny island on which stands a church. It is a small lake, less than an acre in size, and a leisurely stroll around the lake can be completed in about 90 minutes. The tiny, wooded island called Blejski Otok is the only island in Slovenia with a pretty baroque church known as the Church of the Assumption of Mary.
